Sarah had the chance to catch up with Jessica Mitchell this week and chat
about her nod for CCMA Roots Artist of the Year, some of her plans during
music week, as well as her upcoming tour of Western Canada with Royal

Sarah: Congratulations on the CCMA Roots Artist of the Year nomination!
Take me through what it was like hearing you were nominated?
Jessica: It was early in the morning, and I had actually been talking with
my friend, Madeline (Madeline Merlo) for, I guess you can say “moral
support” as she had went through something similar last year with her
first nomination. It was pretty unbelievable. There were a lot of tears.
Sarah: Are you looking forward to music week?
Jessica: Yes! It’s in my hometown this year too, so it’s really exciting.
Sarah: Are there any specific performances/plans that you’re particularly
excited about during the week? I know your schedule is pretty jam packed!
Jessica: HA! You’re not kidding! I am really looking forward to the
Legends Show. I’m especially looking forward to the Songwriter’s Series as
well. I really love the opportunity to take part in those because you get
to share your music, and talk about its origins and what they’re all
Sarah: Not long after CCMAs, you’ll be hitting the road on a Western

Jessica: Yes! Very much! He’s such an amazing artist and performer, and I
really cannot wait to share the stage with him!
Sarah: Any plans to return to the East Coast?
Jessica: Ahh.. the East Coast. I really hope I can get there again really
soon. I loved it there this summer! (She was a performer at Cavendish
Beach Music Festival).
