Calgary’s Emerging Pop Band: The New Electric

Featured Video Play Icon

The New Electric had an exciting 2016, winning “Group of the Year” at the First Annual YYC Awards in Calgary, opening nation-wide for Backstreet Boy Nick Carter and releasing their debut EP Living Loud. The New Electric are also excited about their new single recently released “T-Shirt”.

The New Electric is comprised of Calgary natives Kyle McKearny (lead vocals), Shade “Indy” McKearney (bass & vocals), Chris Doi (bass & vocals) and Adam Casey (drums & vocals).

Jenn: You just released your new single “T-Shirt”. Can we expect a music video in the future?

Indy: I would love to make a music video for this song! We’re working on a few ideas, but nothing has been determined for sure yet!

Jenn: How does it feel to be nominated for a Canadian Radio Music Award for Best New Group or Solo Artist?

Indy: It’s unreal! To even be nominated is huge, the other nominees are amazing, and we are very excited!

Jenn: Who are some of your music influences?

Indy: Madonna!

Jenn: Are you excited to join Courage My Love on tour?

Indy: I am! They are some the coolest people I’ve ever met, and I love watching them play live, so to get that opportunity every night for a while is going to be rad!

Jenn: How did you come up with your name?

Indy: We were mulling over names and my brother, Kyle McKearney, just said Thank you, we are The New Electric after a song and it just kinda stuck.

Jenn: Can we expect more new music in the near future?

Indy: How near is near? Haha, we’re always working away on new stuff!

Jenn:  Any plans to come to the east coast?

Indy: We can’t wait to come out that way! Our family came into Canada through PEI originally, so it always has been a dream of ours to play out there! Nothing booked yet, but we have our fingers crossed!

Jenn: Lastly, what is on your current playlist?

Indy: Childish Gambino’s new record. Kendrick Lamar always. I’ve been delving into some older stuff like Billie Holiday and The Ink Spots. I love Jocelyn Alice’s track “Bound To You”.
