When I first heard that two amazing local country artists would be performing at the Carleton on the same night I knew that I would not miss this show. Song City Artists Jason Price and Samantha Power are both no strangers to myself. I have captured each of them previously through the lens and always enjoy their performances.
Samantha Power would play first on this night. Her first performance since the birth of her son 4 months previously. Not that you would even be able to tell she had stepped away for a time period. If anything, and not sure it is possible with her already great vocals, but I think the time off or maybe the extra joy that is in her heart now but her show seemed even better from the last performance I took in. She played a full set of songs with her band including both originals and cover songs. I have to say her rendition of Maren Morris’s my church was suburb and should continue to remain in her set.
I have to admit the last time I took in Jason Price’s show it too was at the Carleton. It was this time that I realized how talented this guy really is. It is no secret that I love country music of all types but there is a spot in my heart for the more classical country. And this is Jason Price. His voice has the more traditional country sound like Randy Travis and Chris Stapleton. In fact, it is his version of Tennessee Whiskey that I truly enjoy from start to finish and always hope that he performs. When you watch Price perform you cannot help but feel country. He looks, sounds and sings the part of an authentic country singer. Now this doesn’t mean that Price is all traditional. He has a catchy hip new tune called Pour Favor that I always take me down south. It has a more contemporary sound something that you think Zac Brown Band would perform. I hope that he releases a music video for this song.
These are two very talented artists that are from right here in the Halifax area. Make sure this summer you take in some of their shows and support local live events. I know both of these artists and they love their fans. They will be more than happy to chat with you during their performances and mingle with you after their sets. I will have the pleasure of seeing them both perform at the Canaan Country Music Festival on July 2nd, 2016 right here in Nova Scotia.
