Okotoks, Alberta Country artist Maddison Krebs released her latest single “Live for Love”.
Co-written by Jeff Trot (Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks) and Tony Martin (Tim McGraw, Keith Urban), “Live for Love” showcases Maddison’s growth as a country artist and songwriter, blending her sultry vocals and classic country roots to create a mature sound. The song encapsulates the notion that when life is out of your control the only way to manage that is through kindness.
In 2016 Krebs was named the winner of the of the second annual ole “On The Spot” Competition during that year’s Canadian Country Music Awards festivities, which earned her a spot in ole’s Red Dot artist development program. Prior to that, Krebs’ notable achievements included her 2014 EP debut Your True Love being nominated Album of the Year by the Alberta Country Music Association, performing for over 200,000 people during the 2012 Calgary Stampede, and landing slots at major festivals such as the Big Valley Jamboree, Canadian Music Week and Folk Alliance International.
I had a chance to interview Maddison.
Jenn: First of all, tell us a little bit about you.
Maddison: I’m a singer-songwriter from Okotoks, AB. I’m 20 years old. I love deep conversations, melodies and writing.
Jenn: How was your summer?
Maddison: My summer was amazing. I spent some great quality time with my family at the lake back home. Not gonna lie though, the Canadian girl in me is ready for scarves and snow now! I’ve also been in Nashville writing for my upcoming EP, which I am super excited about.
Jenn: Your new release “Live for Love”. Can you tell us what it is about?
Maddison: I wrote “Live For Love” with two great writers from Nashville, Jeff Trott and Tony Martin. This song is all about staying connected with who I am and being honest with my truest intention in life and that is love. For me, it’s an affirmation song and every time I sing it I feel better and more grounded. We all live extremely busy lives and I think it’s good to slow down and appreciate the little things in life.
Jenn: Who were some of your musical influences?
Maddison: There are so many people I admire musically! I listen to all genres and I feel that it is finally reflecting in my music. I love Dolly Parton, she is a trailblazer and I love everything about her career and what she stands for. Her kindness is contagious. Others I admire are artists like Bryan Adams, Stevie Nicks, Alison Krauss and Lana Del Rey.
Jenn: Can you tell us about your writing style?
Maddison: My writing style is very simple/classic, I believe in the saying “less is more”. I feel you can hear that in my single “Live For Love”. My intention is to paint a picture with honest conversation that evokes the feeling I had while writing the song. I’m all about keeping it real and speaking from the heart. I want to listen back on my music years from now and still relate to what I’m saying in some way that is still current to where I’m at in my life.
Jenn: What is on your current playlist?
Maddison: A lot of Harry Styles these days. I love his new record. I also discovered a band called The Lone Bellow and they are fantastic. I saw them at a festival here in Nashville. My playlist is a lot of talented people!!
Jenn: What are your plans for 2018?
Maddison: I’m so excited for the new year. I’ve got a good feeling about it! You might be seeing some new music in the new year as well. Everyone can stay updated on my socials : @maddisonkrebs
Jenn: If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?
Maddison: I’d say Dolly Parton or Bryan Adams. And if Elvis was still around it would 100% be him.
Jenn: Do you have anything else you would like to add?
Maddison: You can check out “Live For Love” on Spotify or buy it on iTunes!!
