Since 2012, country music star Tareya has been scaling the heights of the Canadian music industry, with multiple JUNO and CCMA award nominations and chart topping singles earned through her former popular country duo, Autumn Hill.
In 2017, this Calgary-born artist found a new voice as a solo singer/songwriter, with a refreshing new tracklist that blurs the lines between country, pop and R&B.
Tareya’s debut single “Summer Wheels” is released today. She is exploring the edges of her music roots. This dashboard drumming cruise tune is a celebration of her romance-filled introduction to southern beaches and her love for a man who digs classic cars. You can expect her first solo debut album this fall.
I had a chance to catch up with Tareya and find out about her new adventure as a solo artist.
Jenn: Your new single “Summer Wheels” is set to release June 2nd. Can you tell us a little bit about the song?
Tareya: It’s the perfect summer road trip anthem! Imagine combining Sheryl Crow’s “Soak Up The Sun” with Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise”, now add in some Beach Boys harmonies and Ringo inspired drumming and you’ve got “Summer Wheels”!
Jenn: Your musical journey got started at an early age, who were some of your musical influences through the years?
Tareya: I listened to a lot of powerful Canadian female artists, including Sarah McLachlan, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Jann Arden and Chantal Kreviazuk.
Jenn: You were co-founder of Autumn Hill, what made you decide to pursue a solo career?
Tareya: I am so grateful for my time with Mike in Autumn Hill. I made a lifelong friend, met so many wonderful people along the way and learned so much. The solo project is an artistic path that I just felt I needed to take. I need some time to explore who I am as an independent artist.
Jenn: You are working on your first solo album, do you know when we can expect it to be released?
Tareya: September 2017.
Jenn: What are your summer plans?
Tareya: This summer I’ll be focusing on finishing the album and spending as much time as possible in Calgary with my family. I’ve been living across the country for seven years, so coming home will be the perfect celebration for the release of “Summer Wheels”!
Jenn: Do you plan to tour after the release of your new album?
Tareya: Yes, at the beginning of June I’m hitting the road on a cross-Canada radio tour promoting “Summer Wheels.” A 2018 Spring tour is also in the works!
Jenn: What is on your current playlist?
Tareya: Adele, Chris Stapleton, Hootie and The Blowfish, Dave Matthews, Bob Marley
Jenn: Is there anything else you would like to add about your new solo journey?
I’d like to say thank you to my fans for all your love and support. I hope you love the new music. See you soon! xo Tareya
